Yes, you read it right--Dell has issued a MAJOR recall of 4.1 million batteries due to the possibility of exploding while in the computer. SquirrelMail Logoff Fix

Some teachers have experienced a problem with SquirrelMail logging them off after a period of inactivity--usually 15-30 minutes. It does this for security reasons, so that someone can't walk up to your computer while you're away and start reading your e-mail, or send e-mail from your account. But the problem is that this can be VERY frustrating if you spend time typing a lengthy e-mail to a parent only to have SquirrelMail give you an error message when you try to send it and you lose everything you just typed. To find out how to fix this issue, click here.

SIS Remote Desktop Login

If you're using Remote Desktop to take attendance with or need to access SIS from home with Remote Desktop, here are the settings to use in order to log in properly.

1. If you don't have the Remote Desktop program on your Windows desktop, you can access it by clicking the START button, then clicking on ALL PROGRAMS, go into the Accessories submenu, click on Communications, then click on Remote Desktop Connection.
2. Once you open Remote Desktop, you'll need to put in the proper settings for it to communicate with the remote system. To do this, you'll need to click on the OPTIONS>> button to open the settings window. The first setting is the computer's address that you'll be connecting to. For SIS it is 198.60.16.12. (see IMAGE 1 below)
3. The next thing is to add the User Name and Password. For ALA the User name is Amerlead-sis. The Password is Amerld101.
4. Next you define the domain that you will be accessing. For SIS it is DELLBERT, in all caps.
5. You then want to put a checkmark in the Save My Password checkbox so you don't have to type it in every time you log on.
6. Lastly, click the SAVE AS... button at the bottom and then click SAVE to make all of these settings permanent. It will ask you if you if you want to replace the existing file. Click YES.
7. Once all of the settings have been entered properly, click on the CONNECT button at the bottom of the Remote Desktop box to begin the login process.
8. Once you've logged in, it will prompt you for YOUR Identification and Password (see IMAGE 2 below). The ones you entered earlier were just to get you to this point. Now you need to type in your ALA faculty ID number and SIS password. In this instance, you DO NOT need to put an 'F' in front of your ID number. That is only when accessing SIS through the web browser. Don't worry about the Name field--it will fill that in from your ID number.
